Native app
An app built specifically for one platform, iOS or Android, with that platform’s own tools.
Glossary · Apps & products
A native app is written in the platform maker’s own language and tools: Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android. It therefore has direct access to everything the device can do: the camera, notifications, sensors, background work.
The price is two separate projects if you need both platforms: two codebases to build, test and maintain.
The native route pays off when an app depends on performance, or on features that cross-platform tools do not support or support late. Most business apps, with their forms, lists and orders, do not need that.
